Robbers' gang smashed; six held

NEW DELHI, JULY 2. A gang allegedly involved in robberies in medicine godowns has been busted by the Central Delhi police. Six persons have been arrested in this connection.

According to the police, a robbery had taken place in a medicine godown near Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Rajender Nagar on June 18. Following investigations, the police came to know that the robbers had been tipped-off about the godown by a courier delivery boy. Three of the accused were arrested on Thursday evening, while the others were arrested at their instance. Those arrested have been identified as Krishan Gopal, Naresh, Suresh, Vinod, Amit and Suresh alias Sonu. The police have recovered four country-made revolvers, 14 live cartridges, four knives and three mobile phones from the accused.

The police said Gautam Kapoor, son of Vishnu Kapoor, was sitting in his father's godown along with his two friends on June 18 afternoon when two persons, nattily dressed, came into the godown. They asked for Gautam and suddenly began abusing his father. As Gautam and his friends, who till then thought they were dealing with medical representatives, tried to stop the duo, they whipped out country-made revolvers and tied up the three young men with their ties. Their associates, who were waiting outside, also came in. They then escaped with a huge quantity of medicines in a tempo which they had brought along.
