Adams takes 2-1 lead

TRIPOLI (LIBYA), JULY 3. Grandmaster Michael Adams of England made a decisive ride forward for his maiden berth in the World chess championship finals after drawing with Grandmaster Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan in the third game here on Saturday.

Adams thus took his lead to an unassailable 2-1 in the four-game match and now just needs to draw the final game as white to proceed to the final.

In the other semifinal, Grandmaster Rustam Kasmidzhanov of Uzbekistan was giving his best shot against top seed GM Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria and the third game was still interestingly poised at the time of going to press.

In game two Topalov could do nothing with white and had to take his second successive draw against Kasimdzhanov. — PTI
