CPI (M) seeks amicable solution

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, JULY 3. The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) today appealed to the Centre and the Supreme Court to find an amicable solution to the controversy over the proposed High Court Bench in Madurai.

In a statement here, the State CPI (M) secretary, N. Varadarajan, said the move to inaugurate the Madurai Bench on July 24 was aimed at fulfilling a longstanding demand of the people. The system of High Court Benches functioning in two cities prevailed in many other States too, he pointed out.

An amicable solution should be found to the dispute on the basis of the views of lawyers belonging to the districts, on which claims and counter-claims had been made, he said. Public welfare must be the basis of any such solution, Mr. Varadarajan felt.
