Students fall ill after consuming midday meals

BELLARY, JULY 3. Over 100 students have fallen sick after consuming the midday meals provided to them in their schools at Siddapur in Koppal district and Tambarahalli in Bellary district.

Three out of 250 students of the Government Model Higher Primary School at Tambarahalli have fallen ill after consum-ing the mid-day meals on Saturday.

Mahesh (10), one of the children who fell ill, said that he chewed the tail of a lizard that he found in the food that was served and fell ill after that.

The children were rushed to the Primary Health Centre at Tambarahalli for treatment.

According to reports, the children had recovered.

Injections were administered to all the children as a precautionary measure.

The Deputy Director of Public Instruction, K. Prahalad Achar; Siraj Sheikh, former MLA; S.C. Gundakalle, Tahasildar; A.M. Vadigeri, the Block Education Officer; Prakash Reddy; the taluk Health Officer; Badawadgi, the police inspector, rushed to the spot.

More than 100 students of the Government Higher Primary School at Siddapur were <129>hospitalised after they consumed the midday meals on Friday.

According to Karatagi Police, who have registered a case, the students complained of stomach pain and threw up soon after they had consumed food at the school.

Of the 100 children who fell ill, 14 were in a serious condition and were admitted to the Primary Health Centre in the village.

Their condition is said to be stable.

The doctors suspected that the children fell ill as they were served inferior quality food.
