By Our Staff Correspondent
RAICHUR, JULY 3. The district administration has warned that it would take stringent action against officials if they were negligent in implementing the pulse polio programme, to be held for four days from Sunday. The Deputy Commissioner, G.N. Nayak, who chaired a district-level meeting of the task force committee on pulse polio here on Friday, said that a four-day pulse polio programme would be implemented in the district from Sunday. Children who had been administered the polio drops during previous rounds should be immunised in the seventh round as well, he said. He said that the committee members and representatives from various social and volunteer organisations should educate people and convince them to immunise their children. He said that the taluk and village level officials entrusted with the task should conduct door-to-door surveys to identify the children who need to be vaccinated. The district administration will not hesitate to suspend the officials if they fail to participate in the programme, he warned. Apart from primary and high school teachers, the district administration had also identified a group of volunteers to take active part in the programme. The Chief Executive Officer of the Raichur Zilla Panchayat, M.N. Narayanaswamy, said that several medical officers from Chitradurga, Davangere, and Belgaum district had been appointed as supervisors to overlook the implementation of the pulse polio programme. The zilla panchayat had released the necessary funds to the Department of Health to <129>organise the programme, he said.
