RAICHUR, JULY 3. The Revenue Minister, M.P. Prakash, said that a high-level meeting under the chairmanship of the Minister for Water Resources, M. Mallikarjuna Kharge, will be held in Bangalore to discuss the formation of a separate nigam for the Tungabhadra Project. Speaking to presspersons at Munirabad on Friday, he said that there was pressure from political parties, elected representatives, and farmers of Raichur, Koppal, and Bellary district to constitute a separate nigam to handle water management in the command areas under the Tungabahdra Project. The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, and the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, will also participate in the meeting, he said. The MLAs and MPs from Koppal, Raichur, and Bellary districts will also be invited to take part in the discussion and give their suggestions, he added. The Minister said that the Government had given top priority for improving irrigation facilities under the Tungabhadra Project. The ayacutdars in the the command areas of Raichur, Koppal and Bellary district had been facing shortage for water because of reduction in the storage level in the reservoir.
