MYSORE, JULY 3. A college student ended his life last night after entering into a suicide pact with a girl who survived the attempt and was rushed to the hospital. The police said Girish and Smitha, who were drawn to each other, allegedly decided to take the extreme step fearing parental disapproval of their association. They allegedly consumed rat poison at People's Park in Nazarbad. But before the poison had its effect, the two decided to hang themselves from a tree. While the noose around Girish's neck tightened causing his death, the other end of the veil snapped and Smitha survived. She rushed out of the park and alerted the Garuda mobile police which shifted the two to the hospital. Girish died even before first aid could be given while Smitha was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
