Gulbarga
By Our Special Correspondent
Sri Murugarajendra Mahaswamiji presenting the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, with a golden crown at Jidga in Aland taluk in Gulbarga District on Saturday.
GULBARGA, JULY 3. For Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, it was a visit to his favourite pilgrimage centre to offer special prayers to the samadhi of Sri Shivayogi Siddarameshwar Swamiji of Jidga and Mugalgod Math. The seer had predicted that Mr. Singh would become the Chief Minister this time. An ardent follower of the seer who passed away a few months back, Mr. Singh offered prayers at the samadhi where the mortal remains of the seer are kept. Sri Murugarajendra Swamiji, who took over the reins from Sri Shivayogi Siddarameshwar Swamiji and Sri Mahanta Shivacharyaru of the Sulpul Math, accompanied Mr. Singh to the Samadi to offer prayers. Earlierin the day, Mr. Singh laid the foundation for a memorial being built for the seer. Murugarajendra Swamiji also honoured Mr. Singh with a golden crown a silk shawl. Mr. Singh, who was also scheduled to accept a tulabhara in his honour, persuaded Murugarajendra Swamiji to accept the honour on his behalf. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Singh recalled his long association with the Jidga and Mugalgod Math, and called it a secular math, where every community was looked upon as equals. Mr. Singh said that the rain gods had been merciful on Karnataka and important reservoirs, including the Kabini, were full. The K.R. Sagar dam, which had reached a maximum storage of 63 feet last year, now had 104 feet of water. He said that the good inflow into reservoirs had enabled the State to release 14 tmcft of water to Tamil Nadu. He added that if the present situation continued, more water could be released to Tamil Nadu. Though the four districts of the Hyderabad Karnataka region had not received good rains since the beginning of the monsoon, the heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours had revived hopes of the farming community. The Aland MLA, B.R. Patil, who received Mr. Singh, was present at the felicitation function along with former Minister, Malikayya Guttedar, and former MLA, Subash Guttedar. Sri Mahanta Shivacharyaru of the Sulpul Math and Sri Murugarajendra Swamji spoke on the occasion.
