RAJAHMUNDRY, JULY 3. Provocative and lewd posters, obscene films, tantalizing TV serials, liquor shops in every nook and corner of the town were some of the reasons for eve teasing and attacks on girl students. This was the gist of what girl students in various colleges like Kandukuri Rajya Lakshmi College for Women, Aditya Junior College, VT Junior College and the Government Junior College and Government Arts College told the local MLA, Routhu Surya Prakasha Rao, who visited the institutions on Saturday with a view to instil confidence among girl students in the background of the Sri Lakshmi incident in Vijayawada. Mr. Surya Prakasha Rao who was accompanied by the Sub-Collector, R. Hari Singh and the Circle Inspector, Laksminarayana, assured the girls that the Government would take stringent action against mischief-makers. A complaint book would be made available at every college and as soon as a complaint was made action would be initiated, he promised. Women could also approach the police and MRO offices through the phone as well as directly to him, he said. He recalled the incident in Mallayyapeta in which acid was thrown on the face of a girl student and said that such incidents should not recur. Mr. Surya Prakasha Rao said the Government was determined to curb this menace and the Minister for Roads and Buildings, Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao, had convened a meeting of principals, correspondents of educational institutions and parents at the R&B guesthouse on Sunday to deal with this issue.
