Temperature
MADURAI, JULY 3. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 39 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26.8 degrees Celsius.
Water level
The Periyar dam received a rainfall of 7 mm followed by Tekkadi 4 mm. Water released for irrigation has reached Kallandiri through the lined canal. Water discharged through the riverbed for recharging the drinking water infiltration wells reached Peranai.
Lovers commit suicide
According to the police, Chandrasekar, an agriculture labourer of Muduvarpatti, fell in love with his neighbour, Muthulakshmi. In a letter they had cited poverty as a reason for them to take the extreme step.
Two killed in accidents
A cyclist, Arumugam (36), of Mahaganapathi Nagar near Samayanallur, was knocked down by a speeding lorry near Paravai. The lorry was going to Coimbatore from Tuticorin. In the other accident, Parameswaran (22), who was riding a motorbike, was hit by a van on the Chekkanoorani-Tirumangalam Road. The deceased, working as a cashier in a private firm, was killed on the spot.
