Temperature

TIRUCHI, JULY 3. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 37.4 degree Celsius and a minimum of 26.8 degree Celsius.

MP assures help

The Tiruchi MP, L.Ganesan, has assured all necessary assistance to strengthen the infrastructure of the Tiruchi Airport to make it an international airport.

Mr. Ganesan, who held discussions with the airport director, S. Sreekumar, and other senior officials today promised to take up a proposal on establishing a cargo complex at the airport with officials of the Civil Aviation Ministry. Mr.Ganesan requested the airport authorities to provide him detailed project proposals on strengthening the infrastructure of the airport.

Rehabilitation aid

The State government has sanctioned Rs.7.40 lakhs for being disbursed as rehabilitation assistance to reformed bootleggers in Tiruchi district, the Collector, V.Pandian, has said.

A maximum of Rs.15, 000 would be extended as loans to the beneficiaries and the credit assistance would be repayable in three years with four per cent interest, he said, disbursing the credit to 49 reformed bootleggers here on Friday. A total of Rs.4.15 lakhs was disbursed the credit for purchase of milch animals and setting up of petty shops.

The District Superintendent of Police, Thamarai Kannan, and other senior officials participated.

Coaching classes

The University Grants Commission Coaching Centre, Jamal Mohamed College here will conduct coaching classes for the SLET (lectureship) examination from July 10. Coaching would be imparted to the candidates belonging to Humanities, Arts, Science, Commerce, Computer Science and Environmental Sciences. Candidates interested in joining the programme could contact the Principal, M. Sheik Mohamed, a college release issued here yesterday said.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur reservoir stood at 55.40 feet today. The inflow was 14038 cusecs and the discharge was 2000 cusecs.
