NEW DELHI, JULY 3. Pre-monsoon showers in some parts of the Capital on Saturday afternoon provided the much-needed relief from the oppressive heat and humidity which had been making life miserable for Delhiites for the past few weeks. Though only some parts of Delhi had rain, the overall weather condition improved as the strong gusty wind, recorded at 37 knots or 68 km per hour, provided a "cooler'' effect to the entire Capital. The rain, which was brought in by strong westerly winds, was primarily confined to the southern and western parts of Delhi and as such while Palam recorded 36.5 mm of precipitation, at Safdarjang in the heart of the Capital it was a mere 2 mm. Still the drop in temperature was perceptible all over. The minimum temperature dropped to 28.7 degrees Celsius at Safdarjang and 29.8 degrees Celsius at Palam. As the windy condition continued, the evening became very pleasant and heaving a sigh of relief a number of people came out to get a respite from the humidity at home, made worse by the frequent power cuts.
