By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, JULY 4. The Lok Adalat, instituted under the Pondicherry Legal Services Authority, will hold periodical camps in villages to address issues and settle them on the spot, said Justice M. Karpagavinayagam, Madras High Court judge. He took charge as Executive Chairman of the Legal Services Authority here today. He told newsmen that the Adalat would accord priority to issues concerning women. The Legal Services Authority was instituted in 1998 in Pondicherry. While a full-fledged premises was being readied on a site where the court complex was coming up, the Lok Adalat would have buildings in Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam regions from out of funds available from the MP or MLA Areas development programmes. Mr Justice Karpagavinayagam appealed to all sections of people to make use of the Lok Adalat machinery, and said Government employees could also approach the institution for redress of their grievances. A one-day workshop would be held on `Role of Media' in Chennai on July 10. Delegates from all sections, including the Bench and media, would present papers on Lok Adalats. Calling upon the media to sensitise the people to the utility and relevance of Lok Adalat and settlement of disputes through that machinery, Mr. Justice Karpagavinayagam said the main agenda for him would be to associate the voluntary organisations to deal with problems faced by women. The legal literacy programme and legal aid clinics would visit villages and create awareness among people on Lok Adalats.
