Goals galore

BANGALORE, JULY 4. It was a goal glut here on Sunday as Canara Bank and SAI posted facile victories in the V. Karunakaran and D.S. Murthy Memorial inter-club tournament's third phase at the KSHA Stadium. Canara Bank, powered by Appanna's four goals, defeated Vasu Hockey Club 11-1, while SAI also scored an 11-1 victory over BEL with Naveen chipping in with three goals.

Canara Bank nudged ahead with Somanna's seventh minute strike but Prakash found the equaliser within two minutes. However, Canara Bank surged ahead with Appanna (22nd, 29th, 34th, 36th) and Somanna (32nd) scoring. The bankmen continued to revel as Ricky Ganapathy (2), John Varghese (2) and Kamal Horo also joined the scorers' list.

SAI's victory march commenced in the ninth minute as Kushalappa slipped one past the BEL defence. Later Naveen (3), Sampath (2), Bipin (2), Varun, Bharath and Raghunath also scored to leave BEL in the shadows. Vinay Kumar scored BEL's lone goal.
