NARSARAOPET, JULY 4. The Pulichintala Reservoir Project would be completed in the next two years and there was no ambiguity on its implementation, the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said here today during his first-ever visit to the district after assuming office. Those likely to be affected due to submergence while executing the project need not have any fear as they would be paid compensation in full before the completion of the project, Dr. Reddy told a press conference at the SKR Brahmananda Reddy College. There was no dearth of funds for paying compensation or executing the project, he said. The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, had reacted positively to the suggestion that Godavari waters should be utilised fully by completing the projects proposed on it, which would enable the Government to bring water to the Krishna and Nagarjunasagar Delta also, he said. There were some inter-State problems to be resolved in taking up the Inchampalli project, but Polavaram would be taken up immediately. Implementation of the Polavaram project figured on top of the Government's list of priorities, he said and added that tying up loan for the project was in an advanced stage and with the completion of the project the Krishna Delta region would also automatically benefit. The storage level in the Alamatti Dam was 80 tmcft as on date and if another 30 to 40 tmcft accumulated water could be drawn by the State, release of water to the Krishna Delta region would be announced, Dr. Reddy said. A final decision on the dates would be taken after a meeting with officials, MLAs and MPs in a couple of days, he observed. "This is farmers' Government and all possible help will be extended to them," he said.
