VIJAYAWADA, JULY 4. A decision on the release of water to the Krishna delta would be taken by the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, after a meeting with MLAs of districts that have areas irrigated by Krishna waters. The need for irrigation water, the intensity of the demand for it, the availability of water and the farmers' right over it would be taken into consideration while taking the decision, according to the Minister for Major Irrigation, Ponnala Lakshmaiah. Answering queries by newspersons at Polampalli in Krishna district, the Minister said the Congress was committed to providing water to farmers. He said he had held a meeting with MLAs and MPs of different regions and noted their needs, aspirations and the right they had to the Krishna waters. The Chief Minister had convened a meeting with MLAs at Hyderabad on Monday, he said. The Minister said that, with a bit of planning, the available water could be provided to farmers of all the regions. Former Krishna ZP Chairman and senior Congress leader, Pinnamaneni Koteswara Rao, said the Government must take a decision and release water to Krishna delta immediately. It could begin by releasing ten TMCft from the dead storage of the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir.
