Vijayawada
By Our Special Correspondent
VIJAYAWADA, JULY 4. The Vijayawada Lok Sabha member, Lagadapati Rajagopal, has urged the Chief Minister, Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, to order the release of 10 tmcft water to the Krishna delta region. In a representation submitted to the Chief Minister, during the latter's visit to the district on Sunday, Mr. Rajagopal said that Jaggayyapet, Tiruvur, Nandigama and Mylavaram Assembly constituencies remained under-developed and said that minimum water supply could not be ensured even in constituencies like Kankipadu. The spurious seeds, pesticides and fertilisers added to the woes of the farmers. Mr. Rajagopal appealed to Dr. Reddy to ensure that remunerative prices were offered to chilli produce through MARKFED and NAFED. He also said that the Government should take steps to set up a chilli purchase centre at Nandigama as it was becoming increasingly difficult for the farmers to carry the produce raised in 30,000 acres in Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency to Guntur market yard. The MP wanted sanction of additional funds for the early completion of Pulichintala project.. The MP said village health centres and mobile hospitals were essential to provide necessary health care to the people in the upland areas and along the sea coast. Protected water supply schemes in rural areas and rural roads in the villages which were inhabited by SCs and BCs should be taken up at the earliest. He urged the Chief Minister to sanction 15,000 pucca houses in the Assembly constituencies of Jaggayyapet, Mylavaram, Nandigama, Tiruvur and Kankipadu and 3,000 houses under urban pucca housing in Jaggayyapet municipality. Mr. Rajagopal apprised the Chief Minister of the poor state of school buildings in his constituency. He urged Dr. Reddy to upgrade the Government General Hospital (GGH) attached to the NTR University of Health Sciences to 500 beds and provide super specialty facilities to it. He also wanted the cancellation of the GO on the removal of the canal bund-dwellers. If their removal was a must in view of the city development, they should be shifted to house with full amenities. He also urged the Chief Minister to consider Light Rail Transit System (LRTS) for Vijayawada in view of the growing traffic.
