The TDP president and former Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, unveiling the statue of the party founder, N.T. Rama Rao, on Sunday.
HYDERABAD, JULY 4. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, unveiled a new statue of the party's founder president, N.T. Rama Rao, in place of the damaged one at Kapra on the city outskirts on Sunday. He also unveiled another statue of NTR at nearby Safilguda. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Naidu alleged that the Congress activists had damaged the earlier statue at Kapra but the party leadership did not even have the courtesy to condemn the incident. It was unfortunate that the Congress workers should have reciprocated this way to the TDP Government's gesture in naming some parks and the Kotla Vijayabhaskara Reddy stadium in the city after the late Chief Ministers of the Congress. Activists of the Congress went on a murder spree eliminating TDP workers, particularly in Anantapur district, out of vengeance in the aftermath of elections. When the issue was raised in the Assembly, the Government showed a lack of concern, he charged. Referring to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), he said the party had pushed the issue of backwardness of Telangana into the background, now that it had got two berths in the Union Cabinet and six in the State. It had also given a go by to GO 610. The party's true colours would be exposed in a couple of months, he remarked. The TDP MLA, T. Devender Goud, the Ranga Reddy Zilla Parishad Chairman, K. Gnaneswar, the Rajya Sabha member, Alladi Raj Kumar, the Kapra Municipal Chairman, Ramchander Goud, and the TDP Mahila wing leader, N. Rajakumari also spoke. Earlier, Mr. Naidu garlanded the statue of freedom fighter, Alluri Sitaramaraju, at Tankbund on the occasion of his birth anniversary and proceeded to the Mahankali temple at Secunderabad to offer prayers in connection with the Bonalu festival. He then unveiled NTR's statue at Safilguda and garlanded the statue of B.R. Ambedkar at ECIL crossroads before reaching Kapra in a rally.
