New power tariff system in soon

By Our Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH, JULY 4 .The Haryana Government would shortly announce a rational slab system of power tariff in the State for the benefit of the people, the Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, said while addressing a public meeting at village Frehn near Narwana today.

He said that a nine-member committee constituted by the State Government to rationalise the slab system of power would submit its report by July 6.On the SYL canal issue, he said that it was the moral duty of the Central Government to ensure the supply of the due share of water to Haryana at the earliest by getting the remaining portion of the Canal completed in the Punjab territory. He hoped that the canal would be completed by the year-end. He alleged that the Punjab Government had been creating unnecessary hindrances even after the verdict of the Supreme Court.

He claimed that his regime had constructed 89 minors and distributaries to ensure adequate supply of water to farmers. Also, work on 63 such projects was in progress and 11 were under consideration. His Government had opened new avenues of prosperity by implementing several irrigation schemes in the Ahirwal region, which used to face drought like situation. He asked farmers to diversify their crops as the size of land holdings was reducing with the increase in population.

While reiterating that there would be no shortage of power by the end of December and the State would be self-sufficient in power, he said that although the consumption of power had increased considerably in other states too, due to continued spell of heat, efforts were being made to purchase power from other sources even at a high rate to provide it to the consumers in the State.

He announced at Tohana that the roads passing through the villages would be laid with concrete and 1,000 buses would be added to provide the facility of bus service at each village.
