HYDERABAD, JULY 4. Having lost all hopes of recovering her deposited money from two banks, a hapless woman ended her life here today. Kusuma (50) committed suicide by hanging herself in her house at Chatrinaka. "She was sceptical about getting the deposit back. She was dejected as even the interest payment was stopped," her husband, Madhava Rao Kulkarni (60), told the Chatrinaka police. "Of late, it has become difficult to feed ourselves," Rao said with tears welling in his eyes. Kusuma woke up early in the morning, went to the temple, offered prayers and came back home around 6.30 a.m. Rao went out around 7.15 a.m. to buy vegetables. When he returned home, her body was hanging to the ceiling with a rope tied around her neck. Kusuma had resigned her private school teacher job five years ago. As income from her husband, a petty vendor, was meagre and uncertain, she sold off whatever property she had. She deposited the money thus received in Vasavi Bank (Rs. 1 lakh) and Prudential Bank (Rs. 75,000). The couple had the shock of their life when the two banks ran into a crisis halting payment of their monthly interest. With the only source of income suddenly cut off, the couple ran from pillar to post for recovery of their money. In the suicide note, Kusuma said nobody was responsible for her death, the Chatrinaka Sub-Inspector, B. Pratap Kumar, stated. She also appealed to the police not to harass her husband over her death. The couple had no children.
