Sir, Criminals like Dhananjoy Chatterjee should be hanged without a second thought. If he is let off only with a life term, it will set a bad example. True, there may be no evidence that the death penalty has a deterrent effect. But at the same time we do not want people like Dhananjoy to live on the taxpayers' money.

Sir, Whatever the degree of crime, the criminal should be punished but not on the same scale. Taking away a life is unjustifiable, because no one can give life to a person. Solitary confinement and life imprisonment are worse than hanging a person.
