Militants open fire on ONGC staff in Assam

SILCHAR, JULY 5. A Central Industrial Security Force constable was critically injured when armed militants opened fire at an Oil and Natural Gas Corporation geo-physical party near the Bhubandahar oil field under the corporation's Cachar project in south Assam on Sunday night.

The Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Bishnu Prasad Rabha, said here today that the incident occurred when the ONGC team of officials and labourers, escorted by nine CISF jawans, were returning from a nearby drilling site to their base at Bhubandahar.

At Topidahar, militants opened fire at the team from a hilltop which was returned by the securitymen.

A CRPF constable was critically injured in the gun battle.

Police suspect the hand of the Dima Halong Daogah in the incident.

However, they did not rule out the involvement of the Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) in the attack. — UNI
