CHANDIGARH, JULY 5 : "Make a resolution to tell at least one person everyday about HIV and AIDS,''said beauty queen and actress, Gul Panag, who is the Goodwill Ambassador of the Northern region of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for AIDS awareness, in Chandigarh. Launching a major project on HIV and AIDS Awareness, Prevention and Rehabilitation, organised by the CII jointly with the State AIDS Control Society of the city, Ms Panag, stressed that "information, education and communication'' were the key to tackling a social disease, which had reached epidemic proportions. Appealing the youth, she urged young people to take up the challenge to address this issue with responsibility, empathy and sensitivity. People with a public image have a social responsibility to contribute towards spreading awareness on issues, which impact the whole society, she said explaining that an issue like AIDS needed media and public support to generate awareness, modify attitudes and change behaviour. "The time to act is now,'' she said, given that India now holds the second largest number of HIV infections in the world.
