KANNUR, JULY 5 . The BJP national executive member, C.K. Padmanabahan, today said that the Left parties had hijacked the mandate of the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP leader told a press conference here today that though the leadership of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) was with the Congress, the Communist parties were wielding the power to influence its policies and ideas. The investment climate created during the term of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was now under threat as a result of the influence of the Communists on the Central Government, he added. Explaining the political resolution adopted at the two-day State committee meeting of the BJP that concluded here yesterday, Mr. Padmanabhan said the BJP had now emerged as the `real' Opposition in the State, as the parties in the Opposition Left Democratic Alliance (LDF) were supporting the Congress-led UPA Government. Stating that senior leaders of the party in the State would soon meet to discuss and evaluate the political situation in the State and to chalk out the future course of action, he denied media reports that the leadership had faced a barrage of criticism at the State committee meeting. The UPA Government's announcement of a package for the protection of educational institutions exposed its communal appeasement policy. This would sow the seeds of divisions in the country, he said. Mr. Padmanabhan also alleged that the Governor, R.L. Bhattia, was publicly seen playing an active political role after he assumed office.
