CHANDIAGRH, JULY 5 .The former Haryana Chief Minister and president of the Haryana unit of the Congress, Bhajan Lal, today condemned the arrest of the Independent MLA from Pundri, Tejvir Singh, on charges of rape, cheating, breach of trust and criminal intimidation. In a statement here, Mr. Bhajan Lal charged that the case against Mr. Singh had been registered at the behest of the Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, as the MLA had decided to switch his support from the ruling Indian National Lok Dal to the Congress. The Congress leader asserted that the Congress would register its protest against the highhandedness of the Chief Minister and organise a dharną outside the Mini Secretariat at Kurukshetra tomorrow morning. He said that it was obvious that the MLA had earned the "wrath'' of the Chief Minister who is " now bent upon creating terror among his political opponents and also legislators of his own party.'' Kuldeep Bishnoi, MP from Bhiwani, has also condemned the arrest of Mr.Singh. It may be recalled that the police had registered the case against Mr.Singh on the orders of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Vivek Bharti, on the complaint of his "first'' wife, Asha Thakur.
