DAVANGERE, JULY 5. Five persons were injured when police resorted to a lathi charge to disperse a mob that had gathered at the General Hospital to register their complaints with the Lokayukta, N. Venkatachala, at Honnali, near here, today. Two of the injured have been admitted to the hospital. When Mr. Venkatachala and his team arrived at the hospital, a large number of people who had assembled in front of the hospital started narrating their woes. They raised slogans against the hospital authorities for allegedly not treating the patients well. At this point of time, someone shouted that everything was all right at the hospital. Angered by this, a group of people assaulted him in front of the Lokayukta. It was then that the police resorted to the baton charge. Later, calm was restored and Mr. Venkatachala told the people that he had come there to listen to the problems of the people. Talking to presspersons, Mr. Venkatachala expressed regret over the extent of corruption in society. The Government should take steps to eliminate corruption at all levels, he said. The Lokayukta visited some government offices in the morning.
