Rainfall recorded

Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 35.6 degree Celsius and a minimum of 25.7 degrees Celsius on Monday. Humidity, which was 83 per cent in the morning dropped to 54 per cent in the evening. A rainfall of 1.8 mm was also recorded.

Power shutdown

There will be no power supply between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesday in some areas under the Krishnalanka section and KG Market section due to works on reinforcement of conductor and shifting of HT/LT lines.

The areas are: Ranigarithota, Bapanaiahnagar, Donka Road, Laxmana Rao plates, Geetanagar, Balajinagar, Kalpana apartments, Kotinagar, Nehrunagar, Dwarakanagar, Gowthaminagar, Indira Colony, Tirumala Rao Veedhi, Arjun Street, Brahmin Street, Akulavari Street, Upparavagu, M.K. Pet, Vadapallivari, Four Taps Centre, Jammidoddi area, Nallamandu area, Potti Swamy Street, Thavavari Street, part of Sivalayam Street and Gudivadavari Street.

Commodity prices

Following are the prices (in rupees per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale markets on Monday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: Groundnut oil - Rs. 52, palmolein oil - Rs. 42.25, sunflower oil - Rs. 51.50, tamarind (flower variety) - Rs. 31 to 35, tamarind (Karipuli variety) - Rs. 40 to 45, chillies (AC) - Rs. 24 to 28, chillies (non-AC) - Rs. 14 to 22, rice (2716) - Rs. 13, rice (superfine) - Rs. 14 to 15, rice (samba masoori) - Rs. 15 to 16, black gram - Rs. 19 to 25, red gram - Rs. 25 to 31.

Delta farmers'

plea to YSR

The Krishna Delta Irrigation Water Users Association has urged the Government to release 105 tmcft of water to the delta during the present kharif to cater to the needs of farmers. The water should be released at the rate of 6,000 cusecs per day for 20 days (10 tmcft) for taking up seed bed preparation, 11,572 cusecs per day for the next 35 days (35 tmc ft) for transplantation works and 7,000 cusecs per day in the next 100 days (60 tmc ft).

Donation

The Andhra Pradesh Motor Merchants Association has donated Rs. 75,000 to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for implementing the free power supply to farm sector. The association president, M.V. Prasad, and the general secretary, B. Narayana Rao, handed over the cheque to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Monday.

Supply of maize

Agrocorpex India Ltd, a company working for the welfare of poultry farmers, has decided to supply maize at subsidised rates to its member farmers in Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda districts. The distribution of maize will be made on a priority basis and farmers desirous of lifting the stocks are requested to approach the Vijayawada Agrocorpex Office.
