VISAKHAPATNAM, JULY 5. The response to Passport Application Receipt Cells (PARCs) at the office of the Commissioner of Police here and the office of the Superintendents of Police in Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, East Godavari and West Godavari districts is gradually picking up. "The PARCs have received 2,110 applications this year. The trend is on the upswing as people are realising that it is more convenient to submit applications in their own districts," the Passport Officer, Abhilasha Joshi, said in a statement here on Monday. The Ministry of External Affairs introduced PARCs to decentralise passport services and to take them closer to applicants. PARCs increased the channels for applications and saved time, as applicants could avoid visiting the Passport Office. However, applications are accepted at the PARCs for only for fresh passports. Issue of Tatkal, minors' passports and renewals are done at the Passport Office. "Applications received till May 17 have been cleared, provided the details given in the forms are complete and police verification reports clear," Ms. Joshi said. For the status enquiry, applicants could call (0891) 2513894 or 9540 1250244, log on to www.visakha.nic.in/passport or www.indianpassport.nic.in or e-mail rpovis@itpvis.ap.inc.in. The telephone number of the Passport Officer is (0891) 2745747 and the Superintendent of police is (0891) 2745746.
