Manmohan's gesture
NEW DELHI,
JULY 5.
In a rare gesture, the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, today asked the father of a gallantry award-winning constable of Jammu and Kashmir Police who was killed while fighting militants, whether the State could do anything for him.
Ghulam Mohammed Dar of Pulwama district in southern Kashmir was taken aback when the Prime Minister walked up to him after the military investiture to enquire about his family.
Mr. Dar, whose only son was killed during a mission by Special Operations Group (SOG) of the State police and was awarded Shaurya Chakra posthumously, told Mr. Singh that his family was going through a hard time.
Mr. Dar said he and his ailing wife had only two daughters, one of whom was unmarried, and had been trying for a job for the last two years. The Prime Minister, who spoke to him for nearly five minutes, assured him that something would be done. PTI
