Jayalalithaa orders reconstruction of temple

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, JULY 5. The Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, has ordered the reconstruction of a temple in the Pattinapakkam government employee's quarters, recently demolished by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board in an encroachment removal drive.

According to a press note issued by the government, the Chief Minister had ordered the reconstruction of a `Pillayar' temple in the First block quarters after the residents made an appeal that it was the only place of worship in their locality.

The Housing Board had demolished it since it was an illegal construction.

The residents had represented to the Chief Minister that they now had to travel to Mandaveli to worship.

The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Board will take up the construction of the temple.
