CHENNAI, JULY 5. The Kilpauk police today claimed to have solved a robbery case involving the assault of two women in a flat on Poonamallee High Road on June 16, with the arrest of two youths yesterday. They said Murali, Satyalakshmi's nephew, who had planned the theft, fell out with the two over the sharing of the booty and was murdered by them. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Kilpauk), G. Karthikeyan, said Mujib, Rafiq and a third person, entered Sathyalakshmi's house, assaulted the woman and her daughter-in-law and stole 50 sovereigns of jewellery and Rs. 10,000 in cash. Rafiq and Mujib later met Murali at Thoraipakkam. A quarrel rose over the sharing of booty, resulting in Murali's murder. Mr. Karthikeyan said Murali was involved in several chain snatching incidents and had been jailed under the Goondas Act. While in jail, he met Mujib and Rafiq of Pulianthope. Police recovered the stolen jewellery but not the cash as it had been spent.
