More rain likely

NEW DELHI JULY 5. With the south-west monsoon advancing towards Delhi, the weatherman has forecast a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain/thundershower on Tuesday.

The maximum and minimum temperature recorded on Monday at Safdarjung was 35 and 25 degrees Celsius respectively. At Palam, the maximum and minimum temperature was 36.4 and 29.3 degrees Celsius. Safdarjung also received 6.2 mm of rainfall.

The maximum humidity at Safdarjung and Palam was 92 and 79 per cent respectively, while the minimum was 61 and 59 per cent respectively.

Constable

shot at

NEW DELHI JULY 5. A Delhi Police constable posted with a Police Control Room van sustained pellet injuries in the right thigh after some miscreants fired at him at Nangloi in West Delhi in the wee hours of Monday. The victim has been admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. when Constable Satish and two of his colleagues in a PCR van were deployed on Rohtak Road near Swarn Park. They heard some commotion following which Constable Satish went to check. He was shot at and injured. They assailants fled from the scene.

A case of attempt-to-murder has been registered at the Nangloi police station and a hunt launched for the culprits.

Suicide by woman

NEW DELHI JULY 5. A 24-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her house at Lajpat Nagar in South Delhi today.

According to the police, Jolly, wife of Anil, a resident of Dayanand Colony in Lajpat Nagar, hanged herself from the ceiling when nobody was present in the house this evening. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Jolly was married to Anil two-and-a-half years ago. The couple reportedly used to have frequent fights over domestic issues.

The area sub-divisional magistrate has been informed about the incident and inquest proceedings have been initiated.

The Lajpat Nagar police are further looking into the incident.

Labourers die in sewer

NEW DELHI JULY 5. Two labourers died in a sewer line of Wazirpur Industrial Area this evening, Delhi Fire Services said. The labourers were identified as Ganesh Rao, 35 and Hari, 20.

The incident occurred at about 5 in the evening, when the two labourers went inside the sewer at C-22 Wazirpur Industrial Area. "They died because of inhaling poisonous gas inside the sewer," officials of the Delhi Fire Services said.
