Hunt for DSP in rape case

By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL, JULY 7. The Bhopal police today launched a hunt for a Deputy Superintendent of Police who has been charged with raping a minor girl at a farmhouse on the outskirts of Bhopal. The Ratibad police station here recently registered a case of rape against the DSP, Vikas Pathak, — son of a former State Director-General of Police — and four others on a complaint by a 15-year-old girl.

According to the FIR, Swati Shukla, who runs an NGO, had lured her maidservant to a farmhouse, where she was allegedly gang-raped by the police officer and his friends. After the FIR had been registered, Ms. Shukla and the maid addressed a press conference here saying that the rape charge had been concocted by those trying to "fix" him.

But the maid yesterday reiterated her earlier version to police and gave a fresh statement under Section 161 corroborating her initial complaint.
