SIRSI, JULY 7. The differences between the Marigadde Jalabalakedarara Sangha and the Sirsi Municipal Council over the Marigadde Drinking Water Project for Sirsi town being taken up with aid from the Asian Development Bank at a cost of Rs. 18 crores were resolved amicably after intervention from the Divisional Commissioner, Rakesh Singh, at a recent meeting in Karwar. The draft of terms and conditions laid down by the Marigadde Jalabalakedarara Sangha over the use of water of the Aghanashini from Marigadde was read out at the Council's special meeting on July 5. The draft stated that eight million litres of water in the river should be maintained the whole year at Marigadde. It said the remaining water could be lifted for Sirsi. The draft said the authorities concerned should not construct a dam across the river and that they should ensure a measuring device to measure flow of water. The draft said the existing irrigation facility in the upper reaches of the project should not be disturbed. At the meeting, a municipal member, Arun Kodkani, said that certain conditions such as maintaining eight million litres of flow of water throughout the year should be changed, as the flow of water would be less in summer. Except this, the meeting accepted the terms and conditions enumerated in the draft bringing an end to the differences between the two parties.
