Finance Commission term extended

NEW DELHI, JULY 7. The former Chief Economic Adviser in the Union Finance Ministry, Shankar N. Acharya, has been appointed part-time member of the Twelfth Finance Commission. He replaces Som Pal who has resigned.

The term of the Finance Commission has also been extended up to December 31, 2004. The Commission will now submit its report by November 30, 2004 instead of July 31, 2004, as required earlier.
