Stamp paper scam: printing machine seized
NEW DELHI,
JULY 7.
On interrogation of a suspect in the fake stamp paper scam, Uday Sawant, now in CBI custody, raids were conducted at a press in Mumbai and a printing machine was seized.
In connection with investigation of two fake stamp paper cases taken up by the CBI from Karnataka on the orders of the Supreme Court, the agency today arrested a Assistant Commissioner of Police (retired) T.G. Sangram Singh, Inspector Vali Basha and Sub-Inspector Vazeer Ahmed Khan in Bangalore.
The CBI alleged that the three had been subverting the investigation of the cases.
During investigation of the two cases, the roles of the three police officers came to light. In one case, it alleged that these officers `connived' with the kingpin of the scam, Abdul Karim Telgi and `helped' him in the sale of fake stamp paper, after `taking a bribe.' PTI
