LUCKNOW, JULY 8. The newly -appointed Uttar Pradesh Governor, T.V. Rajeshwar, today urged the media to ensure that `misleading' reports were not published. He said he had noticed that reports with `misleading' headlines and details were published in some newspapers the day before. Talking to media persons after taking oath, the Governor declined to specify the newspaper reports that he had found misleading and added that he would not reply to reporters' questions today.Local newspapers have come out with speculative stories about the role of the new Governor with reference to the expectations of the Congress. The U.P. Congress leaders had openly demanded the removal of the former Governor, Vishnu Kant Shastri, because of his association with the RSS. His dismissal last week by the President strengthened the impression that the political situation in the State was likely to be in turmoil. The Congress has been at loggerheads with the State Government headed by the Samajwadi Party leader, Mulayam Singh Yadav, who showed extreme courtesy to Mr. Shastri even after his dismissal. Normally an outgoing Governor leaves before the arrival of the incumbent appointed to replace him, but Mr. Shastri remained in the Raj Bhavan for two days even after Sudershan Agrawal had taken over as the Acting Governor on July 4. The Chief Minister arranged for him the customary farewell dinner and the Guard of Honour by the military at the Lucknow airport before his departure on July 6. The State Congress leaders felt that the "undue courtesy shown to Mr. Shastri" by Mr. Yadav was his way of "taunting" the Government. Mr. Rajeshwar in a brief statement said that the role of the Governor had been well defined in the Constitution. It would be his responsibility to work for the welfare of the people and the progress of the State. He then urged the media to help him in this task. Earlier, he was administered the oath of office by the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, Tarun Chatterjee, in the presence of Mr. Yadav, his Cabinet colleagues, and senior civil and military officers.
