ERODE, JULY 8 . The president of the Erode Handloom Cloth Merchants' Association and Chairman of the Federation of Textile Producers of Erode, R. S. Nataraja Mudaliar, today welcomed the Governments' announcement on the abolition of the Central Value Added Tax (CENVAT) on textiles. While welcoming the proposal to abolish manufacturing tax on tractors, the president of the Lower Bhavani Project Ryots Association, C. Nallasamy, expressed concern over the budget not taking up the issue of linking of Southern Pennisula Rivers or nationalisation of rivers. He also took objection to the proposal of enhancing tax on steel.
