CHENNAI, JULY 8. The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment (HR and CE) department today announced a fresh schedule for performing kumbhabishekam at four temples, which were originally slated for next year. The HR and CE Minister, P.C. Ramasamy, had earlier announced a schedule for conducting kumbhabishekam at 16 temples on two different dates August 22 for 11 temples and March 17, next year for five other temples on the ground that it could be performed only after finishing the renovation work. The five temples chosen for performing kumbhabishekam on March 17, 2005 were Karpagavinayakar temple (Pillayarpatti), Marundeeswarar temple (Thiruvanmiyur) Prasanna Venkatesaperumal temple (Gunaseelam), Kapaleeswarar temple (Mylapore), and Agatheeswarar temple (Panchatti). According to the revised schedule, kumbhabishekam would be performed at the Marundeswarar temple on August 22, Prasanna Venkatesaperumal temple and Agatheeswarar temple on August 27 and Kapaleeswarar temple on August 30, a HR and CE department release said. The release said kumbhabishekam at the remaining four temples had been rescheduled in consultation with spiritual personalities and temple administrations, as devotees had pleaded with the Chief Minister to advance the dates. The Chief Minister had also directed that all the renovation works at the temples be expedited before performing the ceremony. The Government wanted to give adequate time for completing the ongoing renovation work as per `Agama' rules, as wished by spiritual personalities and devotees that the ceremony be performed only after completing desilting and cleaning of temple tanks. Of the five temples, the administration of the Karpagavinayakar shrine at Pillayarpatti, Sivaganga district, decided to go ahead with its plans to conduct the kumbhabishekam as per the original schedule on the ground that renovation works were completed in tune with the `Agama' rules. The kumbhabishekam was performed today.
