Nagercoil
By Our Staff Reporter
NAGERCOIL, JULY 8. As the storage position in the Mukkadal dam is comfortable, there will not be any water scarcity for another one year in Nagercoil, the municipal engineer, Suresh Kumar, said. Speaking to The Hindu , he said the level in the Mukkadal dam stood at 24.80 feet against the total capacity of 25 feet. The municipal authorities were distributing water once in three days to the residents of municipal limits. But now works on the construction of two more overhead tanks with the total capacity of 25 lakh litres were going on in full swing and would be completed within six months. On the construction of underground drainage, Mr. Suresh Mumar said a private consulting agency had been conducting a feasibility study for the last three months. It would submit a detailed project report within 15 days and steps would be taken to seek financial assistance either from the World Bank or any other financial institution for the implementation of the project. Similarly, the municipal authorities had decided to construct a dam at Ulakkaiaruvi to meet the water requirements of the resident of Nagercoil in future.
