New sewerage system

NEW DELHI JULY 8 .The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, who is also the chairperson of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), inaugurated a new sewerage system for the Najafgarh area today. The function was presided over by the Outer Delhi MP, Sajjan Kumar.

Others present on the occasion included the Najafgarh MLA, Ranbir Singh Kharb, and the Chief Executive Officer of DJB, P.K.Tripathi. About 1.25 lakh people would benefit from the system.

`Restore Haj subsidy'

NEW DELHI JULY 8. A delegation of the Delhi State Haj Committee (DSHC) met the Minister of State for External Affairs, E. Ahmed, today and urged him to restore the subsidy for Haj pilgrims. The Minister assured the delegation, led by the DSHC chairman, Abdul Sami Salmani, that necessary steps in this direction would be taken.

Phone transferred

NEW DELHI JULY 8. Around 620 telephones with codes `2729, 2785, 2787, 2788 and 2789' working in Pehladpur village and Shahbad Diary area would be transferred from the Badli telephone exchange to the state-of-the-art OCB type remote exchange (code `2782') at Pehladpur village at 4 p.m. on Friday.

According to a Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited release, all affected subscribers have been intimated about their new telephone numbers. New numbers can also be obtained from the computerised automatic changed number announcement service on `1951' or `1952'.

After the changeover, the customers availing of the dynamic STD/ISD facility would be required to re-register their secret code by dialling 123 ABCD, ABCD.

In case of any difficulty subscribers can contact the supervisor of the Badli telephone exchange on telephone number 27881000 or the sub-divisional officer on 27882700 or the divisional engineer on 27892511.

Problem of multiplicity

NEW DELHI JULY 8. The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, has said that the Capital was faced with the problem of multiplicity of authority which was making it difficult for development to take place in a smooth manner.

Delivering the inaugural address at a conference on `Delhi 2010: Vision for Model State' organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Delhi State Council, here on Wednesday, Ms. Dikshit said every decision went back and forth between the various agencies which contributed to the delays.

She called upon the citizens to demand development of the National Capital Region as a viable development alternative.

Speaking on the occasion, the Delhi Development Authority vice-chairman, Madhukar Gupta, said the agency was working on several important initiatives mainly synergy between the Delhi Master Plan and the NCR Plan and review of the land use policy. .

Training workshop

NEW DELHI JULY 8. A training workshop for principals and teachers of English- medium schools was organised by the Darshan Education Foundation here on Thursday.

Teachers from different schools teaching different subjects attended the various sessions addressed by experts.

The objective of the workshops was to acquaint the teachers with the latest concepts and methodologies in interactive and activity-based teaching.

Besides attending the workshops, the teachers also shared innovative teaching techniques with each other during the demonstration sessions.

Innovative techniques

NEW DELHI JULY 8. A three-day workshop on "Teachers for Tigers'' was held at the Indian National Science Academy and the National Zoological Park this past week.

The workshop is the eighth in a series over the past 18 months.

The focus of the workshop was on using innovative activity-based techniques for environmental education, such as games, art, drama, maps and observation with the tiger as the theme.

One of the key advantages of this teaching method is the simplistic approach that could easily be used even in interior areas like in schools and villages around tiger reserves where funds are low and resource material is often not available.
