By Our Staff Correspondent

MYSORE, JULY 8. The Mysore-based VeKare Ex-servicemen's Trust (VKET) today provided financial assistance to 17 World War II veterans and widows who are living in distress and misery.

The assistance was received by the Karnataka Ex-services League (KESL), Bangalore, from the Commonwealth Ex-Services League, which is a trust based in London to help World War II veterans. The objective of the trust is to rehabilitate and render assistance to those who were discharged from the services and were living in penury after the demobilisation of the forces at the end of the war.

B.A. Poonacha, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mysore, handed over cheques for Rs. 1,500 each to the war veterans and widows.

M.N. Subramani, president, VKET, welcomed the war veterans and widows said the KESL had assigned VKET the task of providing administrative support, besides identifying and recommending war veterans and widows living in distress in Mysore, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu districts for financial assistance.

Mr. Poonacha appreciated the efforts of the trust and suggested that the assistance should be increased.

He paid rich tributes to the war veterans and said the soldiers who served during the pre-1947 era had laid a strong foundation for the armed forces of the country.

Dilip, managing director of The Roost, spoke.
