Greening programme
A press release said A. Raghavendra Rao, president of A. Shama Rao Foundation, inaugurated the programme. A. Srinivas Rao, vice-president of the foundation; Vijayalakshmi R. Rao, managing director; K. Janardhan, registrar of the Srinivas Group of Colleges; and Abhijit Mukherjee, principal of the Srinivas College of Hotel Management; were present, it added.
Released
A press release said the booklet comprised 47 songs collected by Vidya Nayak and H.B. Mohan Machar. The songs had been written by many people including Shivaramu, Subraya Chokkadi, Palakala Sitharam Bhat, Lakshmeesha Tholpady, and Amrut Someshwar, it said. The booklet also contained songs sung by schoolchildren during environmental contests, the press release said.
Seminar
A press release said several scholars, tax consultants, entrepreneurs connected with small and large-scale industries, and representatives of the Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industry would participate in the seminar.
Administrator
Mr. Suprasanna said the two-and-a-half year tenure of the president of CMC, Chittaranjan Das Hegde, ended today. As per the Karnataka Municipalities Act, 1964, the Deputy Commissioner would take over the functions of the president of the CMC. The Deputy Commissioner would continue as the Administrator of the CMC till the new president and vice-president of the CMC were elected, Mr. Suprasanna added.
Protest
The villagers, in a statement issued here today, said that they there was a shortage of drinking water in the villages and they were compelled to fetch water from far-off places.
Programme
According to a press release, details and applications can be obtained from the DPM, House No. 8-6-29, KHB colony, Bidar. The third phase of the programme is being implemented from July 1, 2004 to December 31, 2007. All villages under the jurisdiction of the selected gram panchayat will be covered under the programme. Beneficiaries will have to bear a part of the cost of construction of toilets, drains, or drinking water schemes taken up under the programme, the release said.
