Partly cloudy

CHENNAI, JULY 8. The sky on Friday will be partly cloudy with possibility of shower or thundershower in some areas during evening or night.

On Thursday, the maximum temperature in Nungambakkam was 35.2, while the minimum was 28 degrees Celsius. In Meenambakkam, the maximum was 35.4 and the minimum was 26 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels stood at 84 per cent and 60 per cent, respectively.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended in parts of Anna Salai, Kilpauk, Mannady and Muthialpet between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work on July 10.

Free classes

The World Telugu Federation will conduct free classes in Telugu from July 10 for three months on every Friday and Saturday between 4.30 p.m. and 6 p.m. at its office in Ankur Plaza, II Floor, 113, G.N. Chetty Road, T. Nagar. Call: 2815 2191 or 2815 3737.

Customs sale

The Chennai Customs will conduct a mega sale of mobile phones, assorted plastic watches, cigarettes, shirts and other goods at the Custom House, I Floor, 60, Rajaji Salai on July 10 from 11 a.m. No warranty, guarantee or replacement will be allowed on the items sold. The number of pieces sold will be restricted to one mobile phone a person, two watches and shirts a person.

Pollution level

The Particulate Matter in Kilpauk Traffic Intersection was 206 micrograms per cubic metre (mcg/cm) and 30 mcg/cm in the Adyar residential area. The Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter was 61 mcg/cm in Kilpauk and 19 mcg/cm in Adyar. The sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide levels were well within the prescribed limits.

Fines collected

The Southern Railway has prosecuted more than 9,000 commuters for being drunk or causing nuisance, and 4,000 others for smoking under the Railways Act 1989, this year. Fines amounting to Rs. 21 lakhs were collected. The Railway Protection Force conducts raids in coordination with other departments of the railway.
