Temperature

TIRUCHI, JULY 8. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 36.5 degree Celsius and a minimum of 26.0 degree Celsius.

Youth

detained

A youth was detained at the airport for holding a passport with a forged name upon arrival from Colombo today.

The Immigration Inspector, K. Sridharan, said Mohamed Kasim (29), a trader of Varaganeri in Tiruchi, held a passport in the name of Saheel Mohammed of Darasuram in Kumbakonam.

Upon interrogation, Mohamed Kasim had reportedly revealed that he had visited Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka with the fake passport on several occasions by boarding the flights either at Tiruvananthapuram or Chennai.

Mohamed Kasim was handed over to the Airport police where he was arrested and later remanded to custody.

Woman commits suicide

An unidentified woman reportedly committed suicide today on the premises of the K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College Hospital. Police sources said the woman was suffering from illness. The Woraiyur police have registered a case.

Held for

murder

The Ariyamangalam police today arrested Jeneva alias Jennifer (23) of Edaitheru in connection with the alleged murder of two youths, Sodamani and Karuppan of Melaambikapuram in Ariyamanalam limits. The highly decomposed bodies of the two youths were retrieved from an abandoned well near Ariyamangalam, on Wednesday.

Policeman suspended

The Sub-Inspector of the Edamalaipattipudur police station, Kennedy, has been placed under suspension pending enquiry by the Commissioner of Police, T.P. Sundaramoorthy.

Official sources said the suspension was a consequence of inept handling of a case of civil dispute.
