BANGALORE, JULY 8. Heavy rain lashed the city on Thursday evening flooding roads and inundating several low-lying areas. Vehicular traffic was affected in almost all places in the city. At least, eight trees were uprooted. The city received heavy rain in the early hours too. The Meteorological Department said the city received 73.4 mm of rainfall today (since 8.30 a.m.). Power supply was hit in most parts of Koramangala when a high-tension wire snapped and fell on a van in VI Block. The van was burnt partially, according to the Fire Force. On Church Street, a compound wall of a building fell on a car. A tree fell on a car in Seshadripuram. Trees were uprooted on KR Road near the Mahila Seva Samaja building, on the 5th Cross, Sampangiramnagar, and near National College, Basavanagudi, bringing vehicular traffic to a halt. A tree fell on a building in Police Quarters on Magadi Road, causing damage to it. Three trees were uprooted near VV Puram College. In Ejipura, water entered many houses causing inconvenience to the residents. However, rain subsided and the water level in their houses receded. The residents had to spend a few hours throwing the water out. Water entered several houses in HAL II and III stages, Indiranagar II Stage and Silk Board also. Several vehicles broke down even as their drivers tried to splash through water pools. Pedestrians had a harrowing time trying to avoid slush on the roadsides.
