Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the Dhananjoy Chatterjee case. Some have said that 14 years in jail is punishment enough. I find this irresponsible. One might agree that capital punishment is not a deterrent. One might also agree that capital punishment is a draconian measure employed only by a handicapped and incapable state. However, no one will disagree that no jail sentence can serve as punishment for the crime of taking a life or rape.
V.N. Ayre,
Sir, Those in favour of a Presidential pardon say no one has the right to take a life. Fine. But then who gave Dhananjoy the right to rape and murder an innocent girl?
P.M. Sriram,
Sir, If Dhananjoy is not hanged people will lose confidence in the law of the land.
D. Mohamadh Khaleel,
