TIRUPATI, JULY 9. Six correspondents of local private colleges and schools were today arrested when they allegedly `raided' the campus of a Guntur-based corporate school here and issued a warning to the management to leave immediately on the ground that it was running the school without `Government recognition.' The incident was a fall-out of a meeting held earlier in the day by correspondents of educational institutions in the Rayalaseema districts to discuss the alleged onslaught they were facing from corporate schools run by persons from `coastal districts' and to come out with suitable remedial measures. The meeting felt the urgent need to set a one-year deadline for the corporate educational institutions in the region to wind up their show and leave Rayalaseema. About a dozen correspondents of local private schools reportedly took one of their own school buses to the corporate school (Bhashyam Public School) located in the M.R.Palle area here and entered into heated exchanges with the management for allegedly running the school without Government recognition. They also allegedly tried to pull out some students from the classrooms even as the students and their parents who by then gathered at the premises seeing the commotion questioned their locus standi in the issue. A cop in plain clothes who tried to intervene was reportedly roughed up in the melee, which eventually saw more cops landing at the scene and taking away half-a-dozen correspondents to the M.R.Palle police station. They were however let off later with a warning, police said.
