Moves afoot to unseat ZP chief

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR, JULY 9. The efforts to unseat the chairperson of the Zilla Parishad, J. Suryanarayana, appear to have gained momentum within his party (Telugu Desam Party) with a secret meeting of key leaders of the Opposition party taking place here on Friday. Mr. Suryanarayana is also learnt to be making all-out efforts to retain the post.

According to insiders, a meeting of the president of the party's district unit, two former MPs, two MLAs and several ZPTC members was learnt to have been held at the residence of an influential leader. They were learnt to have faxed their plea to the party president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, seeking a green signal for moving a no-confidence motion.

Several leaders at the meeting reportedly said that the ZP chairperson was demanding commission for sanctioning works.

Meanwhile, Mr. Suryanarayana was stated to be camping in Bangalore along with close associates.

He was said to be sore over fielding an independent candidate from Kadiri by his rivals in the party. TDP leaders were reportedly planning to move the motion with the support of friendly Congress members.
