Special courts to try atrocity cases

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, JULY 9. The Social Welfare Minister, D. Redya Naik, today said that special courts would be constituted in each district to try cases of atrocities against Dalits, by reducing the number of mobile courts. It was also proposed to separate the Protection of Civil Rights Cell having 111 policemen from the CID.

Replying to a host of supplementaries during question hour in the Assembly, the Minister disagreed with P. Ramaiah (CPI-M) and others that the Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes Commission did not have enough judicial powers, saying it had the powers on the lines of a civil court and it could summon anybody.
